Randy Dunn

President

Randy Dunn was a leader in PK-12 and higher education over a 38-year career, serving as Chair and Professor of Educational Administration & Higher Education at SIU Carbondale as well as a consultant to many Illinois school districts. Following his tenure as Illinois State Superintendent of Schools, Dunn moved to public university presidencies in Kentucky and Ohio, eventually returning to Illinois as President of the Southern Illinois University System from which he retired in 2018. Dunn holds two degrees from Illinois State University and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He and his wife, Ronda, currently reside in Benton, IL.

Larry Kloc

Treasurer

Larry Kloc received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1978 and has been a Certified Public Accountant since that same year. He received a Masters of Business Administration Degree in 1996.  He has been with UIC for 18 years, most recently as Assistant Director, Hospital Finance Special Projects, since July 2012, He is a retire/rehire with a 25% appointment in the same position.  Larry Kloc has been a member of SUAA since 2012 and UIC SUAA Treasurer for ten years.  In January 2020, Kloc was appointed as a SUAA Regional Director for Region 1.  In 2022, he was elected Treasurer of SUAA and re-elected to the same position in 2024.

Thomas “Bernie” Rowan III

Bernard Rowan is Associate Provost of Contract Administration and Academic Services, and full professor of political science, at Chicago State University, where he has served for 30 years. Rowan also is president of CSU's SUAA chapter. After some years of dormancy, he revived the CSU chapter and has enjoyed serving as a Region One Representative for four-year institutions, now serving his second term.

Steve Cunningham

Steven D. Cunningham EdD, has 25 years of service in SURS and has been an active SUAA participant since 1994, including service as SUAA President (2022-2024) and four years in his current capacity as Region II Director.  Following several years of work as a Journeyman Electrician, Steve’s higher education career started with the Illinois Board of Regents in 1990, where he served as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Human Resources until 1993 when he joined NIU as their first Director of Human Resources.  Steve served in several roles at NIU before retiring in 2015 as NIU’s long-term Vice President for Administration. Thereafter, he relocated to Pensacola where he served as Vice President for Administration and CFO with the University of West Florida, until fully retiring in 2019.  Throughout his career in Illinois higher education, Steve was honored to participate as a member of the administrative team representing higher education in the Illinois State Legislature with respect to SURS participant benefits, business regulations, and funding for higher education.

Betty Zeedyk

SUAA member for at least 15 years, including 10 as a full-time employee at Parkland College. Served as SUAA Board Secretary 2023-25, currently serves on the SUAA Health Care Working Group and spoke at the 2025 SUAA Annual Conference on the topic.

Keith Becherer

University Co-Chair 

A member of SUAA since 2012, and a Supporting Member since 2023, Keith has served in many roles. Serving on the SIUE SUAA Chapter Board beginning in 2018, he became the Chapter President in 2023. Mr. Becherer has also previously represented Region 3 on the SUAAction Board of Directors until taking on the current role of SUAA Legislative Committee Co-Chair (University) in 2025.  

Keith brings more than 20 years of experience working in Higher Education to the SUAA Mission. He has been in his current position, Director of SIUE Campus Recreation since 2015 and was elected (2025) to serve as the St. Clair Township Trustee. Before his recent election, Keith served two terms (2012-13/2022-23) as SIUE Staff Senate President and was a member of the Village of Swansea Park Board. 

Robert Flider

UIUC Chapter

Robert Flider is the inaugural Director of Community and Government Relations at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a role he assumed in April 2018. Prior to this, Flider served as a state representative in Illinois from 2003 to 2011 and as the Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture from 2012 to 2015, after being appointed by Governor Patrick Quinn. With a background in the utility industry, Flider also served as mayor of Mount Zion from 1995 to 2003.

A journalism graduate of Eastern Illinois University, Flider’s commitment to public service was recognized in 2025 when he was awarded an honorary doctorate in public service by the university.

Rich Wandling

EIU Chapter 

Rich has been a member of SUAA since 2009, having previous service with the EIU Annuitant Association’s Board for seven years, including two separate terms as Board President and one as Treasurer.

Wandling retired from Eastern Illinois University in 2018, after 31 years of service in the Political Science Department, including 18 years as department chair. His service in various terms as a precinct committeeperson is helpful to SUAA. Recently he has shifted to the election judge role and stays involved in a variety of volunteer/civic organizations, including Charleston Soup Stop, Master Naturalists, Embarras Volunteer Stewards and the City of Charleston Tree Board. A Rotarian since 2010.

Dick Simpson

UIC Chapter

Dick Simpson is UIC Professor Emeritus, former Chicago alderman, and a former congressional candidate. He has passed legislation and served on numerous transition teams for chief executives.

He has served as Second Vice-President and Chapter Legislative Committee Chair of SUAA-UIC for two years and served on the statewide legislative committee since 2025. The Legislative outreach work at the Chapter level has utilized virtual meetings and other innovations that are shared with other SUAA Chapters as a model for successful advocacy and outreach. Dick is also the author of more than 25 books on politics and over 100 articles.
